A third round tie in the Cheshire Cup for the Year 8 football team saw a trip away to Sandbach Boys School. The team went into the game full of confidence following a 7-0 thrashing of William Beamont the night before. The boys knew this was going to be their toughest game so far this season and that it was.

A slight injury to centre back Sam Tickle meant that he had to play in his other position, Goalkeeper which he duly obliged and put in a magnificent performance! The game got under way and it was clear from the offset that Sandbach were a well organised and attacking team. Culcheth were on the back foot for most of the first half but defended superbly and when Sam Tickle was called into action he was magnificent! The boys were disciplined and stuck to their individual roles and as the half came to a close, Culcheth were getting on top with chances from Louis Thorpe and Connor McLeod Upton narrowly missing.

The start of the second half continued as the first ended with Culcheth causing Sandbach all kinds of problems at the back with excellent pressure from the midfielders and strikers! A superb solo effort by Connor McLeod Upton opened the scoring for Culcheth and the lead was well deserved. Culcheth could have doubled the lead with chances for Jason Sherwin and Louis Bimpson but against the run of play, Sandbach equalised. All this goal did was spur Culcheth on and a succession of corners led to an inch perfect header from Louis Bimpson into the top corner to make it 2-1. The boys were ecstatic. Culcheth held on for a memorable win and march on to the next round of the cup. A special mention for Man of the Match Harry Garbutt who dealt with an excellent opponent throughout the whole game! Well done boys!!!
