On Thursday 24th March we were privileged to welcome Julie Ward MEP to Culcheth High School to meet our Year 8 students. After her long and complex journey from Brussels after the tragic events that took place just two days prior, Julie was able to educate and inspire our students about the work she completes within the EU and her passion for social justice and human rights issues.
To extend the work completed about the European Union in their Geography lessons, our Year 8 students were also given the
opportunity to pose their own Question Time style questions to Julie, one of the Labour MEPs for North-West England. The students’ questions explored the pros and cons of the EU and allowed the students to learn about how the European Union works and some of the important work Julie has completed as part of it.
Following the talk, students will be able to take their new knowledge about the EU to make their own decision for the in-school
EU debate and referendum taking place in the following weeks.
