During Activities Week, Year 7 and Year 8 students were given the opportunity to work with professional writers across disciplines to gain an understanding of what it is like to choose to be a writer as a career.

On the Monday and Friday, Year 7 welcomed Simon Adepetun, a local author, who recently published a children’s book called ‘The Beehive’. The students were given an insight into the creative writing process and also used the advice given by Simon to create and then share their own short stories. Year 7 students produced some excellent creative writing during the workshop and gained confidence in their own writing ability.

Year 8 non-residential students had an equally inspiring session during Activities Week, in which they worked with Chole Laversuch, Warrington Guardian journalist. The students were told about a career in journalism and then had to be journalists themselves, writing articles about the events taking place in school during the week. Students had to research their stories, interview relevant staff and students and then draft and edit their articles. This culminated in the production of an excellent ‘Activities Week Student Newsletter’. We would like to thank both Simon Adepetun and Chole Laversuch for supporting our students at Culcheth High School during Activities Week
