Summer term sees us return to the traditional summer sport of athletics, in which we have a proud history of strong performances at the Warrington Town Athletics Championships. This year’s event was held on 15th June at Victoria Park, and once again our students produced some outstanding performances.

Melissa Ince (Year 7) was crowned Minor Girls 800m Champion, in a fantastic time of 2mins 39secs; and she was joined by Emma McIntyre (Year 10) who took the Inter Girls 800m crown in 2mins and 36secs. Our trio of middle distance girls’
champions was completed by Olivia Anderson (Year 9) who took the 1500m Junior Girls title in an excellent 5mins 41 secs.

Not wanting to be left out, our boys decided to specialise in the long jump this year, with Harvey Ackerley (Year 7) winning the Minor Boys event, jumping a fine 3m78cm and Ben Fairhurst outjumping the entire field by 55cm to win the Inter Boys
title with a massive jump of 5m21cm.

There were also a number of other very fine performances that deserve recognition, with the following students all recording top three finishes in their respective events.

2nd Place: Marcellus Cassidy, Inter Boys 100m and Jong Jump; Harry Wood, Junior Boys 800m; Sam Oliver, Inter boys 800m and High Jump; Kitty Twist-Green, Junior Girls Shot Putt; Adam Kirk, Inter Boys Shot Putt; Richard Hansley, Inter Boys Javelin; Inter Boys Relay Team

3rd Place: Adam Livesey, Inter Boys 200m; Hannah Coley-Knowles, Inter Girls Shot Putt; Morgan McLoughlin, Junior Girls Javelin; Anne Cooper, Inter Girls 1500m; Richard Hansley, Inter Boys Discus.

These performances, backed up by a number of other high placed finishes by their team-mates, saw the boys finish in third place in the overall championship standings, and the girls finish in 5th place, both very commendable finishing positions out of the ten schools who competed in the championships.
