In celebration of UK National Women in Engineering day on June 23rd 2014, AMEC, ran a number of special events across the country in an effort to focus attention on the great opportunities currently available for women in engineering.
Twenty Year 10 students at Culcheth High School were lucky enough to be invited to attend the event held at Daresbury Laboratories in Birchwood, where they were treated to a tour of the site, an inspirational presentation by the Vice President, manipulation of the AMEC-made and designed robotics, ‘speed-chats’ with female employees of AMEC, and many other exciting activities (a few were even interviewed by BBC Radio Manchester!).<
At a time when it has never been more important to address the engineering skills shortage in the UK, AMEC has recognised that 51% of the population are female and are an untapped source of skill, innovation and inventiveness. Many thanks to AMEC for hosting such an inspiring event.
