SCIENCE CSI Challenge – Students explored how forensic science is used in criminal investigations by applying the principles of forensic science, and using the scientific process to solve a fictional crime.
TECHNOLOGY – The Fun Food Company was set up in 2010 to promote healthy eating to school children and is trained in healthy eating, health & safety in kitchens and food safety. The UK has the highest rate of child obesity in Europe and approximately 25% of young people are classified as obese or overweight. It is therefore absolutely vital to encourage children to make better food choices via this engaging Ready Steady Cook Roadshow
MATHS Stock Market Challenge – As part of Financial Capability, the whole of Year 9 were involved in the ‘Stock Market Challenge’ – an exciting, rewarding and competitive two-hour enterprise initiative (the brainchild of the Personal Finance and Education GroupPFEG) which gave the students the chance to trade like brokers do on trading floors and online all over the world every day. The Stock Market Challenge was about students gaining an insight into the experience of trading, and more importantly about using and developing skills. The students were split into groups of five and each ‘company’ given £15,000 to invest through a week in the life of the Stock Market, trading in nine companies, and shares in each company.
Assisted by the Maths department, students competed to become the winning team by being the company with the highest
value fund at the time of closing share prices. The activity was well received by students who worked extremely well during the
challenge. Well done!!
