At the end of the summer term, 30 Year 8 students took a look into the diverse world of modern construction via a site visit to the current Redrow Homes Development in Twiss Green. Students had the opportunity to have a behind-the-scenes look at a local major construction site and meet the fantastic men and women who make it all happen.
Whether our students were thinking about work and a career, or just curious to see what goes on behind those big hoardings, this exciting opportunity provided the answers. Students were given a brief overview of the project, then toured around the facilities, looking at the show home and site where various members of the project team were available to discuss careers in construction and answer questions about the project and their role. Following this, our students even had the opportunity to participate in some hands-on experience of bricklaying – where the girls proved to be a great success!
Many thanks to Elliot Burns and the rest of the Redrow team for organising such a fantastic and rewarding opportunity for our students, and well done to our Year 8 students for conducting themselves so well around a working site. Elliot Burns, Site Manager, said of the visit, “Everyone involved on site really enjoyed it, even the lads that worked behind the scenes to make it happen, all had positive things to say. I think a couple of the girls might make it as bricklayers! Please pass my thanks onto the children for their fantastic behaviour, they are a credit to you and the school.”
