We recently received the fantastic news that Year 11 student, Matthew Pye, has been signed by the Warrington Wolves Rugby
League Club into their U16s Academy programme for the 2015-16 season.

The U16 squad is the final development stage before players are offered a place in the full Academy U19s team and a
professional playing contract, so Matthew has done extremely well to be offered this great opportunity.

Matthew has been involved with the Warrington Wolves setup for seven years now, as they have keenly followed his development from its humble beginnings as a young “fledgling” at our local club the Culcheth Eagles. As Matthew’s development gathered pace, he moved club on several occasions in order to find higher level competition, having spells at Leigh East, Woolston Rovers and finally Burtonwood Bulldogs. Matthew has asked me to mention his thanks to the many coaches and volunteers that have worked with him at these clubs, to help him get to where he is today.

As is often the case with top sports people, Matthew is currently sided-lined by an injury, for which he is due to have a corrective operation over the next 2-3 weeks. I’m sure you will all join me in wishing Matthew all the best for his recovery and
rehabilitation, and if all things go to plan, keep an eye out for him on Sky Sports over the next few years!!
