On 19th July, after four years of fundraising, the Leigh Dragons Gold Coast tour started, as me and 22 of my team mates left Leigh at 6am, arriving at the Gold Coast Recreational Centre, Tallebudgera, late at night on the next day! No time for jetlag, and we started training straight away to prepare for our first match on the 25th July against Currumbin Rugby Club.
We won our first game by 61 points without a point scored by Currumbin, and went on to win our second against Redcliffe Sea Snakes by over 100 points too. Our next three games were tough, and we unfortunately lost by a couple of points on all of them, the third mainly due to the worst referee in the world!
We always had a great time and good laugh after the matches whether we won or not, at the Tallebudgera Surf Club; my mates even managed to get me up to do karaoke. Apart from playing rugby ourselves, we went to watch the Gold Coast Titans and New Zealand Warriors and had a meet and greet with the Warriors players after the match. We trained hard but had a bit of time off to
spend the day at Wet and Wild Waterpark, Movie World or at Tallebudgera Creek and beach, which were literally 50 metres from where we were staying. It was a brilliant trip and one me and the rest of the lads will always remember.
