During Activities Week, Years 8, 9 and 10 completed a Health and Wellbeing Day which was appropriately tailored to each year group. The focus was internet safety and we tackled issues such as cyberbullying, sexting and keeping yourself safe online. With Year 10, we also discussed grooming and how this can be done using the internet. It was a hard-hitting day of discussion and activities but the students learnt a lot form the sessions and will now hopefully put what they have learnt into good practice.

We also had the Amy Winehouse Foundation visit school to run workshops about resilience and self-esteem. These sessions went down very well with the students. The speakers were ex-substance misusers themselves and the students listened to a life story from them to understand the perils of substance misuse. The Amy Winehouse Foundation will be continuing to collaborate with the school in September where they will work with groups of students to improve self-esteem, confidence and resilience. We are really looking forward to continuing the work that we have already done with the foundation.

The member of staff from the Amy Winehouse Foundation who led the workshops and assemblies said the following “The young people in your school have been the most well behaved, well-mannered and respectful young people I have come across! It has been an absolute pleasure to work with them over the last four days.”
