Young Enterprise Initiative
Working with Young Enterprise and Warrington Borough Councillor Geoff Settle, students created a business designed to help the local community and be sustainable. They were each given £15 – but also had to raise additional capital to fund their company.
The company created, ‘Primary Gardens’, offered a service to local primary schools. They planned to design and set up small gardens, teaching the children basic techniques that would enable them to look after them in the future. The team raised money by painting flowerpots, selling seasonal gifts and doing fundraising activities(e.g. a sponge throw) that raised £47.10.
In total, the group raised over £150 which they donated to Culcheth Primary School to develop a sensory garden.
The students then presented their company in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style challenge to leading community representatives including the previous Mayor and Mayoress, Cllr and Mrs John Joyce, ex-chair of governors Roy Sutton, Paul Taylor (Taylor Business Park) and Gary Skentelbery (editor of Warrington Worldwide and Culcheth Life).
