On Saturday 23rd May, Mr Nolan, Mr Bolton, Mrs Buxton and Miss Burnett set off to Llangollen with 23 Year 10 students to complete the practice expedition for their bronze Duke of Edinburgh award.
On arriving at Wern Isaf Campsite, the students very efficiently put up their tents, met some of the local wildlife on the farm and prepared for the first day’s hike. The 13 mile walk took students around Ruabon Mountain to Worlds End and back to the campsite. Each student took a turn at leading the group and we managed to only get slightly lost before lunchtime. After cooking on trangia’s for the first time, the group then settled in for a night under canvas.
On Sunday morning, students awoke early and set off fully loaded to cover a shorter distance of four miles in smaller groups. All students made great progress between check points and completed the walk in some of the quickest times we have had. Well done to all of the students involved and a huge thank you to the staff for giving up their Bank Holiday weekend.
