The fundraising for C-2-S never stops. Almost as soon as we landed from the visit to South Africa in October, the next challenges got underway. The first aspect of this was recruiting our new ‘apprentices’ from Years 8 and 9, who would embark on their journey as part of the C2S team. Both veterans and apprentices were set a tiered individual fundraising target of either £50, £100 or £150. As the project is entirely self-funded, every penny counts, particularly as the reciprocal visit in July will cost in the region of £25,000. Students have been working tirelessly to raise the much-needed funds and most recent team events have included selling refreshments and doing a hamper raffle at the school production, and a pre-Christmas bag pack at M&S. Both events raised around £2500 combined, which is an excellent effort and boost to our funds.
The next big team event is our family fundraiser at The Raj in Culcheth, just before the Easter break. There have been some outstanding and rather daring fundraising efforts from the students, too. Ewan Hassall in Year 8 spent his half term washing cars and completed a 50 mile cycle challenge; Kathryn Wilson in Year 11 hosted a ladies evening at her home which raised £400; Ocean Nelson and Olivia Williams in Year 9 put on an entertaining evening at the Daten in early February and Olivia Dunn and Lois Baber, also Year 9, walked a half marathon to raise money for C-2-S. I think the award for most daring fundraising effort goes to one of our veterans, Olivia Hoddes in Year 11, who is doing a sky dive to raise her money this year. No matter what the students do to raise the money, and no matter how big or small the amount, we are incredibly proud of their efforts and creativity.
This year marks the 10th Anniversary of Culcheth-2-Soweto and, in that time, we have raised around £100,000 and 100 children have travelled between the countries – a fantastic achievement which is worthy of a huge celebration. On Saturday 9th June 2018, we are hosting a ball to celebrate 10 wonderful years of partnership. This is open to all members of the school and local community (over 18) and included in the price is: arrival drink and canapés, a three course sit down dinner, sweet buffet, top prize auction, live entertainment and late bar. Details of how to purchase tickets is to follow soon.
