Unfortunately, it is not yet time for any suitcases to be packed! However, in December the C-2-S team took part in what is becoming our annual bag-packing event at M&S Gemini. This year, the event was made all the more exciting by the store rule that all packers had to be over 16 years old! With only three members of the current team meeting the age requirements, we were not to be defeated and we are very grateful that current parents and older students that have been involved in the project in years gone by, all happily volunteered some of their Sunday to come along and pack some festive shopping bags in store.
As always, the store and customers were very impressed with the project and the quality of the packing on the day and as a team we would just like to thank M&S for making the event possible again, as well as all the parents and students that helped. It wouldn’t have been possible without any of you.
Overall, the bag-pack raised £1015.74 in total. As always 25% of the money raised (£253.74) is donated to the M&S charity of the year. This year their charity is “Brainwave”, a local charity in Birchwood. Brainwave is a charity that exists to help children with disabilities and additional needs to achieve greater independence by aiming to improve mobility, communication skills and learning potential through a range of educational and physical therapies. However, the good news does not stop there; thanks to the hard work and support of one of our parents who works for Barclays Bank, we were able to get the event match-funded. Our £762.00 fundraiser will shortly turn into £1524.00, which is excellent news and puts us a little closer to being able to bring the students from Matseliso over to the UK in July 2018.
