The Culcheth-2-Soweto fundraising never stops and our group of apprentices, along with their families, are working tirelessly to ensure that all the money is raised – all £25,000 of it – in preparation for our next visit to Soweto in October 2019. Just before we returned to school after the Christmas break, a group of our Year 9 apprentices thought that a good way of burning off all those selection boxes consumed was to combine it with a fundraiser in a creative and very active way…by completing a 24-hour run/walk on a treadmill! Issy, Lauren, Ruby, Lucy, Kiera, Victoria, Sam and Elliot gathered on a Saturday night at Ruby’s house and made the floor in to a makeshift sleeping area so they could get some rest in between their treadmill slot as it was going to be a long day and night! Taking it in turns to have 20-minute bursts on the treadmill, each of the team could opt to run or walk and had to time food, naps and toilet breaks in between the schedule. Most of them found it difficult to sleep in between but Elliot slept like a baby and had to be woken several times to be able to take part! Each student raised money individually for the event by being sponsored and, collectively, they raised around £800. A fantastic effort in terms of funds raised but most importantly, a great example of team spirit.
Why not be part of the Culcheth-2-Soweto project and come along to one of our next fundraisers? We have our annual family fundraiser at The Raj in Culcheth Village on Sunday 17th March. Tickets are available on Parent Pay where you pay a deposit and the balance is paid on the day. Ticket includes: complimentary drink on arrival, four course Indian banquet, live entertainment, quizzes, hamper and Easter egg raffle and much more! £20 per person and all funds raised go to Culcheth-2-Soweto.
We also have a Summer Ball in June 2019 (over 18s) following the success of last year – details to follow
