As most of our Year 11 students have now got their plans organised for September, attention is turning to Year 10. I am starting to see students on a 1:1 basis for a careers guidance interview to discuss their future plans. Following this, you will receive a “Summary of Careers Guidance and Action Plan” through the post.
To prepare for the interview, I would suggest using the following websites to explore the world of work, apprenticeships and
university. It is advisable to start this process early – as it could determine what path/subjects to take after Year 11.
We have planned some college visits during Activities Week but it is also a good idea to go to college Open Evenings where you
can find out more about; course content, facilities, extra-curricular activities and how each college will prepare you for employment or university. There are some Open Evenings this term but most are next term – check college websites for details. Reaseheath College run taster days in July for Year 10 – you will need to register for these through www.reaseheath.ac.uk.
The National Careers Service
Have a go on “The Buzz Quiz” – which helps to explore your personality and what sort of jobs may suit you or watch video clips which link subjects to jobs.
Find out more about apprenticeships and look at current vacancies. https://www.gov.uk/apprenticeships-guide
Explore courses and in particular entry requirements as for some degrees it may be necessary to take specific subjects at college. www.ucas.com
